February 28, 2007

Annapolis, Md. – The National Sailing Hall of Fame today announced that the City of Annapolis has committed $260,000 to support the new addition to the Annapolis waterfront.

The National Sailing Hall of Fame & Museum is a not-for-profit educational institution dedicated to preserving the history of the sport of sailing and its impact on our culture,
honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of sailing, inspiring
and encouraging junior sailing development and providing an international landmark for sailing enthusiasts. The NSHOF is being located on the Department of Natural Resources property at Annapolis City Dock and will provide a significant new tourist attraction for the City of Annapolis and State of Maryland. The property will remain State property.

“Annapolis has been a Maritime Center for over 300 years. We are proud to partner with the State and County in hosting the home of the National Sailing Hall of Fame,” said Mayor Moyer announcing a $260,000 contribution passed by the City Council last year.

The Maryland Stadium Authority is undertaking a Feasibility/Site Study that will look at economic impact, engineering and preliminary design for the National Sailing Hall of Fame. The Study is due for completion in May 2007. The National Sailing Hall of Fame plans to proceed from the Study with a RFP to solicit designs for a building for the Annapolis waterfront and for cutting edge interactive exhibitions.

In the spring, summer and fall of 2007, the National Sailing Hall of Fame is organizing the display of classic yachts in the National Sailing Hall of Fame Basin, regattas to be staged off of the National Sailing Hall of Fame Basin and Naval Academy Seawall, joint marketing with the Naval Academy Visitors Center, and a Film Festival of the Sea.

“We believe that the National Sailing Hall of Fame will enhance the experience of those living and visiting Annapolis and its rich and historic sailing tradition.” said Dick Franyo, President of the National Sailing Hall of Fame Board of Directors. “Part of the Annapolis waterfront will now serve a new sailing tradition.”
